OEM Tool Lanyard and Tether Assembly Guide

Tool Lanyards and Tethers for OEM Supply

Manufacturers and distributors can source fixed-length, coiled or retractable tool lanyard assemblies by drawing or specification. The tether body, tool connection, anchor connection and test requirements should be defined together.

Information Required for a Quotation

  • Tool: product type, weight, geometry and available attachment point.

  • Tether: wire rope, coated cable, coil, webbing or retractable construction.

  • Length: relaxed, operating and maximum extension, including tolerances.

  • Connections: carabiner, loop, hook, ring, cinch or customer-designed fitting at each end.

  • Anchor: attachment geometry and intended connection to the user, structure or equipment.

  • Environment: abrasion, corrosion, oil, temperature, outdoor exposure and snag risk.

  • Performance: required working load, safety factor, proof or drop test, cycle test and applicable standard.

  • Supply: colour, logo, labels, instructions, quantity, packaging and destination.

Connector and Assembly Review

A connector rating does not automatically establish the rating of the completed tether. Cable terminations, webbing seams, coils, retractors, gates and attachment points must be evaluated using the agreed assembly and test method.

Intended-Use Boundary

Tool lanyards retain tools and equipment. They are not personnel fall-arrest, climbing or lifting equipment unless a separately designed and documented product is supplied for that purpose.
